The Facts About Chocolate

It's safe to say that a majority of people love chocolate. Whether it's dark chocolate or the lighter version, billions of people
have consumed this tasty food. Some are even addicted to it, others love it but can't eat it because they say it causes headaches or skin problems. Over the years hundreds of articles have been written about chocolate, it's effect on your
health, what type to eat and more. This page contains several facts about chocolate that have been determined by
scientists to be true. So does every food that tastes good is bad for your health? No. Let's take a look at the facts.

- My neighbour says her daughter becomes hyperactive when consuming chocolate. Can this be true?

Studies have concluded that there is no evidence to link sugar in Chocolate to hyperactivity. Sugar has been shown to
have a soothing effect because it increases compound in the human brain related to sleep.

- Chocolate causes serious tooth decay.

Over consumption of foods with high sugar levels causes tooth decay. However, this is not limited to just chocolate. It is
therefore not true that chocolate specifically does this. There are more damaging foods that chocolate looks mild to when compared.

- Chocolate contains high levels of caffeine.

Not compared to coffee, cola drinks or tea.

- I won't eat chocolate because it causes Acne!

Tricky one. So far there have been no scientific evidence that would link chocolate to Acne. A majority of experts deny that
there is a direct link between food and Acne, however, there is a group that insists that there IS a connection. If you are unsure about whether chocolate causes Acne then try doing some tests, and make sure you look at other foods you consume
as well. Are you taking care of your skin, drink plenty of water, are you under a lot of stress?

- I have a chocolate allergy.

Possible. Humans can be allergic to a variety of foods, including chocolate. Chocolate allergy is thought to be very rare though.

- Chocolate makes me fat..

If you eat 20 chocolate candy bars a day, have 400 grams of chocolate pudding for desert, and don't exercise, yes.
Consuming too much fat/sugars causes you to gain weight, whether it is chocolate or apple pie.
